Maxile\, Jr.\, Assistant Professor of Music at Baylor University in Waco\, Texas. Using discussion and musical examples\, Dr. Maxile will help the audience better understand and appreciate the music that is derived from African-American choral and vocal traditions. They will be viewed in the context of both their music and their times: the era of the civil rights struggle during which their storied careers occurred. \nSpeakers include Dr. C. Dianne Mack\, a prominent researcher in the area of African American folk music and traditions\, and an Associate Professor of Music at Texas Southern University.
