Entitled Opera in the Black: Heroes and Heroines of the African Diaspora, this semi-staged concert will feature solos, duets, and choruses from popular and relatively new operas whose central characters are of African or African-American ancestry. Great musical highlights from Verdi’s AIDA and OTELLO, Purcell’s DIDO AND AENEAS, Joplin’s TREEMONISHA, Gershwin’s PORGY AND BESS, and other works will be performed by an outstanding group of artists: familiar and guest professional soloists along with the Houston Ebony Opera Guild Chorus.
